* Digitising Early Childhood 2020 *
International Conference and PhD workshop
Milan, 11th-12th June 2020
Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS AND PANEL PROPOSALS
Contemporary children and their parents are inventing what it is to have a digital childhood, and in doing so are introducing families, schools and policy makers to new ways of thinking, doing and being. This conference discusses and expands research trajectories through these uncertainties and also aims to build bridges across the different discipline interests and many strands of research in this area. It will forge a new way forward and consolidate the base of what we already know, revealing what we have yet to investigate and address, and what important insights are emerging that must be taken seriously.
With the aim of grasping the complexity and diversity of digital childhoods, we invite original research findings and theoretical analysis addressing (though not exclusively) such questions as:
- Children and their data
- Children’s online presence(s)
- Parenting the digital child
- Privacy, security and children’s rights
- Digitisation of early childhood education
- Literacies at home and school
- Children’s culture
- Changing discourses of childhood
- The child in the digital public sphere
- Research methods with very young children
- Policies, regulations and guidelines
- Cultural difference and digital children
- Risks and benefits
- Digital health
- Designing digital experiences for children
- Gendering (or not) the digital child
Abstracts: We invite 400-word abstracts outlining empirical, theoretical or policy-orientated papers that address these or related questions. Abstracts should be accompanied by a 100-word biography of the presenter(s) together with contact details
Panel proposals (90 minutes) must include a 400-word rationale explaining how the panel fits the conference theme plus a 150-word abstract of each participant’s contribution. PANEL PROPOSALS MUST INCLUDE THE NAMES, AFFILIATIONS, AND CONTACT INFORMATION OF ALL PARTICIPANTS.
PhD Workshop: The PhD workshop will be held on Thursday 11th June in the morning. PhD students are invited to submit a 400-word abstract, including the words PHD WORKSHOP under the title, and in the subject line. In an attempt to create synergies and opportunities for collaboration, we also want to encourage emerging scholars to apply to the main event.
All abstracts and panel proposals should be sent to email@example.com
To ensure papers are reviewed by a diverse pool of qualified reviewers, all authors submitting to the conference who have a PhD or have advanced to the rank of confirmed PhD candidate will be offered an opportunity to review.
Abstract submission by 15th January 2020.
